Landmark Resolution Presented by MPA Sarah Ahmad and Passed Unanimously by the Provincial Assembly of Punjab.
Punjab Assembly takes historic step towards protecting children’s rights.
Lahore, 14 May 2025 – In a decisive move to combat child labour, the Punjab Provincial Assembly has unanimously passed a landmark resolution, presented by MPA Sarah Ahmad, Chairperson of the Child Protection and Welfare Bureau Punjab.
The resolution outlines key commitments:
1. Urgent and Sustainable Measures – The Punjab Government is urged to take immediate, effective, and sustainable steps to eliminate forced labour in the province.
2. Legislation Against Child Labour – Strong and effective laws should be introduced to criminalize the employment of children in forced labour and ensure rigorous implementation of existing protections.
Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif is very serious about the child labour and bonded labour issue in Punjab," comments Ms. Ahmad.
Recognizing the gravity of the issue, the Punjab Assembly’s Caucus on Child Rights has pledged to take this matter seriously, ensuring implementation through collaboration with all stakeholders, including government institutions, civil society organizations, and advocacy groups.
This resolution reaffirms Punjab’s commitment to ending all forms of forced labour, particularly child labour, which is not only unconstitutional in Pakistan but also a gross violation of international human rights.
